The great nude
editorial design for poetry book self published by contemporary author Rubens Brosso. Brosso is a visual artist himself and requested me a very visual project for his book. His poems have an experimental characteristic whose origin can be seen in the Brazilian concrete poetry. His production, however, has its own touch, taking on a political and erotic attitude. His poems have a graphic presentation we have seen in A Throw of the Dice (1897) by Stephane Mallarme. The white spaces inside the poems builds metric and strophic unbalance, breaking a natural rhythm of the text. Its purely graphic and surprising presentation is an author way of questioning the established order. Brosso’s visual work with the letters led me to create a set of illustrations with typographic reticles as graphic solution for the book. the new imagens came from from pictures of sculptures by greek mythological figures such as Adonis, who appeared as his characters in the poems. In a free translation: “[…]Adonis becomes a cocoon / wants to reach the luminous world of vowels[…]”.
