Charles Dickens (1812 – 1870) was an English writer and social critic. He created some of the world’s best-known fictional characters and is regarded by many as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era. This Box contains two of his novels — A Tale of Two Cities and Oliver Twist —, both fluid and captivating readings. The graphic project aims to create a contemporary look using images from the author epoch. A versatile fat face type family is the soul of this graphic design. Theese typefaces known by its radical shapes were a British innovation from early 19th century that marked the design of the period. Mainly present in print advertising, theese kind of typefaces could be found in the urban and loud environment typical of Dickens stories that take place in the same period. In addition to remembering the author’s time, the heavy typographic mass honors the great importance of Dickens. the typographic weight variations creates a witty feeling for the graphic design. The mixed use of colors on the volumes creates an unpretentious design that seeks to symbolizes the gracefulness of reading them. Engravings from the books early editions were reused here reshaped in coloured wide rectangles.
