Arquitetos associados presents a compilation of the first 20 years of activities by the homonymous architecture collective from Belo Horizonte. The visual design was created after a study of the material selected for publication’s characteristics. One part, which is an extensive content of texts, mostly illustrated with images of their projects, would work well in a portrait format book. Another part, which is an as extensive photographic essay of six works chosen by the architects, would work better in landscape format. So, the design of the book has chosen to unite two volumes in one, in an ergonomic and unpretentious size that can be easily manipulated by hands, with two bindings, one in landscape format, nemed “notebook of projetcs”, and another in portrait format, named “book of essays”.
The book papers and visual graphics makes interpretations of the architects work. The rustic look of the uncoated paper and the uncovered cardboard covers make reference to architects’ taste for crude materials such as concrete, slate, steel, and brick, which do not spoil quickly with the action of time. The absence of fixed colours for guards and sections tries to follow the utopian principle of functional indetermination which architecture must reach. The stencil typography of titles seeks to build a sense that the office works with the synthesis of several heads. In titles, typography carries a texture that seems to disappear, seeking its most libertarian principle of the disappearance of architecture.
