Unlearning silence
Being seen and heard is a significant challenge for those who are less privileged, such as women, non-white individuals, and immigrants. In this book, Elaine Lin Hering explores how we learn to silence ourselves and accept being silenced, and how this state of self-nullification becomes a false survival strategy. The author asserts that only by unlearning silence can we reveal our talents, speak our minds, and live fully. The typographic cover seeks to reinterpret the negation of the word “silence” as something positive. The gradient of colors, transitioning from soft blue to vibrant red, further reinforces the book’s intended message of transformation.
